The Grady Britton Grant is back! For the ninth year, we’re offering our services to Portland-area nonprofits in need of some marketing love. The application will go live on April 2, 2018, and we’ll be accepting submissions through April 20th.

Here at GB, our goal is to build brands for people dedicated to making the world a better place. We recognize, however, that some of the most impactful organizations in our community don’t have the means to hire an agency for an extended period of time. That’s why we developed the GB Grant, which provides an extraordinary local nonprofit with a $25,000 donation of in-kind creative services.

If you work for a nonprofit with a story to tell and a message to spread, we encourage you to apply. Grant recipients can call on our team and resources to determine how to best use their new funds to maximize and prioritize their marketing efforts. We will provide the winner with advertising, brand development, public relations, digital strategy, video work, or any number of our capabilities.

Past grantees have included LIVE, Marathon Scholars, Meals on Wheels People, Community Warehouse, and S.M.A.R.T. Although each winner and each campaign has been unique, Grant recipients are united by their passion for coming up with innovative ways to serve those in our community who need help the most.

Our Work for Past Grant Recipients

LIVE has been independently certifying the sustainable practices of winegrowers in the region since 1999. As the organization grew to be internationally accredited, their brand needed to evolve to reflect that strength, as well as the strength of their regional ties. We worked alongside LIVE on a rebrand and website relaunch that put the organization’s values and focus on sustainability front and center. In a world filled with labels, the new LIVE brand and certification makers are designed to stand out and help consumers make informed choices.

Marathon Scholars: Listen In

Marathon Scholars is an education program that pairs low-income students with adult mentors for four years or more. The name refers to the “marathon”—financial, emotional, and otherwise—young people hurtle through on the path toward completing a college degree. Inspired by the StoryCorps model, we collaborated with Marathon Scholars to launch Listen In: an audible collection of students’ and mentors’ stories.

Meals on Wheels People

Whether they’re in need of a hot meal or hankering for company, thousands of Portland seniors depend on Meals on Wheels People. In 2013, we worked alongside the organization to create a broadcast sponsorship campaign that would boost awareness during the holiday fundraising season. The results? An astounding 800% increase in website visits, and more than 5 million TV and social media impressions. To top it off, through donations, Meals on Wheels People doubled its initial marketing budget investment.

S.M.A.R.T.: Readers Change History

S.M.A.R.T. (Start Making a Reader Today) was our first GB Grant winner, and the campaign we created together a decade ago remains one of our favorites. Today, S.M.A.R.T. is Oregon’s largest literacy nonprofit; but back when we first met, the organization was facing difficulties in recruiting volunteer readers for its program. We developed an identity and media package under one powerful tagline: “Readers Change History.”

Apply for the 2018 GB Grant

These are only a few examples of how GB Grant recipients have spent their in-kind donation. How would your organization use $25,000’s worth of marketing and creative services?

Let’s make that question more than a rhetorical one. To learn more about the GB Grant, view the work we’ve developed for past recipients, and apply, click here after April 2, 2018.
