Oregon Beer Showdown 2016: Congratulations, Buoy!

unnamed-9

We always knew that Buoy Beer Co. brewed the best beer in Oregon, but now there’s an award to prove it.

Thank you to the Portland Business Journal’s readers, who recently named Buoy the winner of the Oregon Beer Showdown 2016! Buoy has earned high ratings in the PBJ’s annual tournament-style face-off before, but 2016 marks their first time in the top spot.

Considering the competition, it’s one hell of an honor. Our state is home to countless craft breweries, including some of the greatest and most innovative companies in the industry today.

We’re proud of Buoy, and even more thrilled by the PBJ’s follow-up article, which features an interview with our friend Jessyka Dart-Mclean and enumerates 23 reasons why the brewery won this year’s showdown. The number one reason on the PBJ’s list? “[Buoy] has some of the best looking and cleanest labels in the beer world.”

That look is by no means accidental. We worked closely with Buoy’s founders to design a brand that communicated the brewery’s Astoria roots, with a throwback quality and a modern finish. We wanted the labels to convey the rich history behind what Buoy does as well as the clarity of its founders’ vision. Buoy is a company with a strong point of view, but their beers are made for everyone. The challenge was creating a brand that would stand out and feel classic at the same time.

Once again, we’d like to express our gratitude for everyone who voted for Buoy in this year’s Oregon Beer Showdown and for the PBJ for their fantastic coverage of Oregon’s craft breweries. Cheers!
